What is a RSS feed ?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. This technology enables one to keep abreast of data/information on a web site without actually visiting the site.
When a site uses RSS technology, an XML file is constantly updated when new information is published. Interested parties can “subscribe” to receive and read that information via a RSS feed reader.Popularised by blogs, RSS technology is beginning to emerge as a standard. Included in the advantages it is important to mention that it is not necessary to submit an email address to use this service and the user can subscribe or unsubscribe at any time.
How do you subscribe ?
There is a wide choice of RSS feed readers :- Aggregators, specialized software (Netvibes, RssReader, FeedBurner, Technorati)
- Some email clients (Outlook, Thunderbird)
- Some recent browsers (Firefox 2+, Internet Explorer 7+, Safari 2+)
- Online portals (iGoogle, MyYahoo).
